31 May Gateway 500 Memorial Day endurance race brings out racers from all over the country!
Another terrific Gateway 500 is in the books. We want to thank everyone who travelled near and far for this years event. The field was made up of drivers from Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and Illinois. The 4th annual event ran Sunday under extremely hot conditions. With the new format where the pit stops were controlled by each team, we ran green flag to checkered flag in 5 hours and 15 minutes with a total of 3897 laps being completed by the field.
The overall winning team of Evan Stamer (Glen Carbon IL) and Spike Kohlbecker (Kirkwood MO) were the class of the field with a lap average of 39.047 for the 500 lap distance.
Second place overall with 494 laps went to the team of Bob Cacioppo (El Paso TX), Anthony Cacioppo (Hilliard OH) and Michael Scharf (Kirkwood MO).
Third place overall and the winner in the Heavy class was the team of Taylor Bowman (Cape Girardeau MO), Micah Floretta (Crestwood MO), Chris Keefer (O’Fallon MO) and Austin Russell (Desoto MO) with 492 laps.
