SPIKE KHOLBECKER AND EVAN STAMER FIGHTING FOR THE LEAD

JOEY ESSMA – IGNITE SENIOR WINNER

Ignite Race 3 was the first backwards event of the season. Drivers had to battle hot weather conditions while navigating through an unfamiliar course.

Kid Kart Honda proved to be a spectacular show once again using the shortened version of the backwards course. In the first heat Race Beckman was able to hold off a charging Austin Todtenhaupt to a win by a slim margin of 0.4 seconds. In heat 2, Connor Strohm led the first lap before Austin taking the lead on lap 2, only to pull away with a margin of 17 seconds. In the feature Austin took the lead on lap one and never looked back. Lane Mayer was able to achieve his personal best 2nd place finish 18 seconds behind.

Some of the closest racing all night took place in Ignite Rookie. Cameron Myers took the win of heat 1 with a charging Jaiden Beckman close behind. Jaiden started up front in heat 2 and was able to hold the lead while Carter Pryor and Myers battled wheel to wheel for second place. In the feature it was Myers who pulled away from Jaiden to take the win by 9.5 seconds. Jaiden’s second place finish was a personal best for 2016.

Spike Kohlbecker is always the one to watch in Ignite Junior during his limited schedule. Spike gave all the competitors a run for their money by taking both heat wins along with the feature. Strong performances across the whole class as the best lap times through the field were only separated by 0.6 seconds. Evan Stamer and Davis Worley completed the podium. Evan was able to extend his championship lead heading into Race 4.

Ignite Senior showed a strong turnout once again with 12 competitors. In the first heat, Sean Kennedy was able to take the lead on lap one after Rod Scharf spun heading into turn 1. Kennedy took the win with newcomer Joey Essma 3 seconds behind. Essma was able to deliver in the second heat taking the win along with the feature for his first Ignite feature win in his first start! Rod Scharf and Eric Loddeke were able to round off the podium in a close battle for second.

Jim Rucker took the win in all three races in Ignite Masters and in the feature it was Jon Vernier and Mike Lebrun battling to the line for second with a margin of 0.09 seconds between them. This was Jim’s second win of the season moving him closer to points leader Jon Vernier.
