17 May 2018 Spring iDrive Week 4
Week 4 of the Spring iDrive series was an exciting night of highly competitive racing!
With a full field in both classes and warm weather, the conditions were perfect for a great night of racing.
Our Light Drivers did not disappoint in putting on a great show. iDrive regular Scott McClendon Jr. earned a win right out of the gate in race 1 of the night. A notable racer in the light class this week is Mark Schwigen. Schwigen usually runs in our Heavy class but decided to switch to Light this week to get some video footage as well as to check out the competition this class holds. Entering the Light class at 60+ lbs heavier than his competition, Schwigen proved that a talented driver can out race a weight advantage and finished this race second. Rounding out the podium was Jason Jones in third
The second race of the night was even more exciting than the first. 2017 iDrive regular Austin Russell made his comeback appearance, after taking a break for the arrival of his child. After gaining an early lead, Russell was able to lead a majority of the laps in race 2 with Scott McClendon Jr. on his bumper the entire time. While trying to make a daring last lap pass for the win, McClendon and Russell ran side by side for the last five turns inadvertently allowing Micah Floretta to gain ground and join the race for first with just a turn to go. In the end it was a photo finish, going three wide across the finish line. Austin Russell was able to hold his lead and come out with a win in his first race of 2018 with Micah Floretta second and Scott McClendon Jr. in third.
Our Heavy class was a full field of 14 drivers, making for some exciting racing. The first Heavy race of the night gave Taylor Bowman his 6thwin for the Spring iDrive Series! Adam Dooling was able to earn second place with Eric Loddeke in third.
Heavy Class race 2 had even more action than the first. After going four wide in the first turn there was a tangle including two of our top three finishers from the first race, Taylor Bowman and Adam Dooling, allowing the rest of the field to get quite a lead on these drivers. In the end there was not enough time for these racers to make their way back to the front. Brandin Moore was able to earn a first place finish in race 2 with Eric Loddeke earning his second podium of the night in second place. iDrive new comer Allen Skillicorn finished in third, for his first ever iDrive race.
