IGNITE and SuperComp kart racing season begins April 1-2

IGNITE and SuperComp kart racing season begins April 1-2

The Gateway Kartplex will open its 2017 season for the IGNITE Series and SuperComp Series this weekend. The IGNITE Series will run on Saturday, April 1 and the SuperComp Series will compete on Sunday, April 2. Gates will open both days at 7:30 a.m. with registration at 8 a.m. A drivers meeting will be held at 8:45 a.m., followed by practice.

The Gateway Kartplex is the St. Louis region’s state-of-the-art go-kart racing facility and is located inside the superspeedway at Gateway Motorsports Park. The Kartplex not only is a challenging track for serious racers but also is a fun place to race your friends.

The Kartplex’s GT-5 rental karts are the fastest in the Midwest, capable of speeds reaching 60 miles per hour. The Kartplex’s daily Arrive & Drive rental program is a reasonably-priced way for anyone 12 years of age or older to experience the speeds, g-forces and thrills of real wheel-to-wheel kart racing.

The Kartplex hosts informal “Party at the Plex” racing parties on select Friday evenings: April 7, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 18, September 8 and October 13.

The Gateway Kartplex also is available for corporate rentals and is a great team-building opportunity. Keep the Kartplex in mind for your next bachelor party or birthday celebration. On-site catering is available.

The first level of karting competition is the Kartplex’s weekly iDrive Kart Racing League, conducted on Wednesday evenings with two seasons, one during the spring and one in late-summer/fall. The entry fee is $49.95 per event and the Kartplex supplies everything needed, including the competition-tuned kart and safety equipment. Racing takes place within two weight classes (140-190 lbs. and 191+ lbs.). Each participant receives a five-minute qualifying session and competes in two 12-lap races. End-of-season awards include Kartplex credit, trophies and the opportunity to compete in the season-ending championship shootout.

For those aspiring racers who want to make the jump to higher speeds and personally-owned racing karts, Gateway Kartplex offers the Ignite & SuperComp Series, featuring a season-long championship for drivers of all ages capped with an outstanding awards banquet.

2017 IGNITE Series schedule: April 1, April 29, June 3, June 24, July 22, August 5, September 16, October 7 (double feature), November 4.

2017 SuperComp Series schedule: April 2, April 30 (double feature), June 4, July 23 (doubleheader), September 17, October 8 (double feature), November 5.
