RACE BECKMAN AND CONNOR STROHM – KID KART HONDA

Ignite R1 2016-04-09 Schwigen-3120

IGNITE SENIOR FINAL RACE START

The 2016 Kartplex season kicked off on Saturday April 9th for Round 1 of the Ignite Spec Series. Competitors were met with a challenge of tuning and driving around the cold, slick track that was warming throughout the morning.

Kid Kart Honda came into our Ignite program with a spectacular show. Newcomers, Connor Strohm and Race Beckman, battled it out in both the Pre-Final and Final refusing to let the top spot go. In the Pre-Final Connor started up front but there was an exchange for the lead back and forth until lap 5. Coming down the backstretch Connor was able to grab the lead heading into the double apex. There was no turning back after that, Connor was able to take the Pre-Final win. Starting up front in the Final, Connor was able to hold the lead until Race took the top spot on lap 8. Race’s lead was short-lived as Connor grabbed it back the next time by. Connor was able to hold the position and win by a margin of 1.9 seconds.

Ignite Rookie’s Reid Sweeny’s win streak has continued into this year as he took Round 1’s win. It was a pure domination in both races but Dane Sensel was close on his tail. Dane was able to hold the margin of a half a second, almost matching Reid’s lap times. Newcomers Cameron Myers, Marco Campisi, and Jaiden Beckmann also gained valuable track time to continue their learning experience into our next event.

Evan Stamer was able to continue his successes into 2016 winning Round 1. There were multiple multi-kart incidents throughout the finals. With Cole Sensel starting up front in the pre final, Evan had to move his way up from 6th place. Davis Worley was able to take the lead on lap 2 but it was quickly taken back by Cole on lap 6. With 2 to go, Evan was able to catch the leader and take the win. It was a battle between Cole and Gage Rucker throughout the Final. After troubles for Cole on lap 6, Evan was able to take the lead and hold it until the end with Nolan Baltz following his trail into a second place finish.

Ignite Senior was dominated by Ryan Bettenhausen after he was able to lead every lap in both races. With a best lap of 35.3 seconds, Ryan was on another planet. Colten Dudici was able to hold the second spot with Dillion Emerson close behind. iDrive standouts, Dillion Emerson and Matt Cowhey were able to finish 3rd and 5th respectively in the Final. The 2016 Ignite Senior field continued to be just as strong of competition as 2015, with more entries expected in the future.

JON VERNIER – IGNITE MASTERS WINNER

Last but certainly not least was Ignite Masters. Jon Vernier was able to win the Final in his new “stealth black” Ignite Kart. Jon certainly was under the radar as Mike Lebrun was hounding for the win lap after lap. Trying to make a move coming into the double apex left-hander, he wasn’t able to pass. Jon would go on to win by a slim margin of 0.18 seconds.
